Electrical Project Engineer

We are currently looking for an Electrical Project Engineer to join the Engineering team in Edinburgh.

The Role:

  • Undertake design work and design reviews by internal and external stakeholders
  • Active problem solving with various project stakeholders (Clients, Network Operators, technology suppliers’, contractors) to manage and mitigate renewable projects’ electrical elements.
  • Providing electrical input (reviewing and approving) and managing Balance of Plant Contractors, ICP and Suppliers, including associated Agreements and Contracts.
  • Preparation and review of electrical scopes of work and specifications for tendering.
  • Review of electrical designs by contractors and EPCs.
  • Providing electrical assistance to Project Managers in relation to electrical works (contracts, quality, programme, resourcing, budgeting).
  • Electrical technical assistance across GCR’s departments.

CAD Engineer/Technician

We are currently recruiting for a CAD Engineer/Technician to join the Engineering team in Edinburgh; to work closely with the team providing technical drawings of detailed designs to be used in the construction of wind farms, hydropower schemes and solar farms, as well as other civil and/or structural works, both in the UK and overseas.

The Role:

  • Work with Engineering team to provide technical drawings and models for renewable energy projects
  • Provide support to the Technical and Environmental Services team through preparation of drawings required for planning submission and other elements as required.
  • Opportunity to gain experience with Revit, CADSRC, MicroDrainage and Civil 3D software.
  • Continuing Professional Development with regards to the CAD software, BIM (Building Information Modelling), design and relevant standards – work towards EngTech status with ICE.
  • Quality management of drawing issue and circulation.

Senior/Principal Environmental Consultant

We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and talented Environmental Consultants to join the Environmental and Planning team to assist with our growing portfolio of projects across wind, solar, hydro, battery storage and hydrogen across the UK.

The successful candidates will be charged with supporting the management and delivery of a variety of renewable energy projects, providing leadership and mentoring to junior staff, while developing our business across the UK.

The Role:

  • Managing the delivery of renewable energy projects through all stages of the development process from initial feasibility to co-ordination of EIA and submission of planning applications.
  • Assist the management team with business development, engaging with existing GCR clients and the development of their own network
  • Provide technical leadership on one or more environmental specialisms.
  • Preparation and Management of written technical reports to support EIA delivery.
  • Leading consultation with local authorities, communities and statutory consultees.
  • Preparation of tender documents and fee proposals.

Environmental Consultant

We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and talented Environmental Consultants to join the Environmental and Planning team to assist with our growing portfolio of projects across wind, solar, hydro, battery storage and hydrogen across the UK.

The Role:

  • Undertaking feasibility studies, show-stopper reviews and project viability assessments.
  • Constraint mapping, initial site design and energy yield assessments, using a range of software packages such as GIS, WindFarm, Openwind and PVSyst.
  • Preparation of formal consultation documents for local authorities and statutory consultees.
  • Assisting with the production and co-ordination of environmental assessments and other supporting documents.

Civil Design Engineer

GCR requires a Civil Design Engineer to join their Engineering Department in Edinburgh working with the team, across departments, and with sister companies within the Green Cat group. The candidate will be expected to produce and/or manage all the necessary project documentation, calculations, design risk assessments, reports and drawings (produced by CAD Technician), from conceptual design through to detailed design and sign off on site. The candidate will ensure that engineering design is done in compliance with the industry standards, project objective and contractual requirements. Civil Design elements within the scope of GCR’s work may include:

  • Wind Farm Project Design – working platforms, roads, drainage (SuDS), ground stabilisation/earthworks, wind turbine foundation solutions, substation buildings, other civil infrastructure and temporary works;
  • Hydropower Project Design – powerhouse buildings, intake/weir structures, thrust blocks, pressurised pipelines, access tracks, pipe and road bridges, other civil infrastructure and temporary works;
  • Civil Elements of Other Renewable Projects – storage, solar, green hydrogen, etc.
  • Structural inspection of existing structures (bridges, buildings, roads, etc.).

This is a key position supporting different departments within the business and providing bespoke solutions for various projects.

The Role:

  • Lead the design process for various civil elements as described above.
  • Provide expert knowledge in the following civil engineering areas: Structures (RC, steel and masonry), roads, hydraulic structures (including pipelines), geotechnics (ground stabilisation, earthworks for foundations, piling, etc.) and SuDS.
  • Produce designs, and necessary documents (such as Design Basis Statements) required to progress a project through the design and construction phase.
  • Address technical issues arising in all phases of a project development related to civil & structural design.
  • Take responsibility for the design and ensure that all designs are the best solution for project requirements, considering: timescale, resource, cost, safety, client and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain a technical knowledge of the processes and elements required to deliver designs needed to design the civil elements within GCR’s scope of works.
  • Provide technical input and review of designs produced in house and by third parties.
  • Monitor progress on site, ensuring compliance with design.
  • Engage in Business Development activities for the acquisition of civil design clients.
  • Respond to Invitations to Tender for civil design work.
  • Support PM in estimating project costs, resource requirements and budgets.
  • Attend design meetings.

Engineering Project Manager

A vacancy has arisen an Engineering Project Manager to join the Engineering team in Edinburgh.  The successful candidate will manage the delivery of a range of renewable energy projects and to help continually develop the expanding client base.

The Role:

• Management and responsibility for a variety of renewable energy projects.
• Preparation and/or review of technical design elements.
• Preparation of documentation and management procurement processes.
• Ensuring financial and technical targets are met in delivering projects.
• Effective management of, and reporting on, project risks.
• Facilitation of agreements and contract negotiation.
• Management and supervision of contractors carrying out services and construction on projects.
• Communication with external stakeholders (e.g. landowners, developers, community bodies, planning authorities, community relations, grid network operators).
• Identify and provide project tasks/details for tracking purposes.
• Update the project team/disciplines on scope, status, changes of the project and schedule/expectations and ensure effective communication with all project stakeholders.
• Management, detailed tracking and communication of project progress from a task, time, schedule, and cost perspective.
• Manage changes in project scopes, identifies solutions for potential issues and derive contingency plans as required, while engaging the appropriate resources.
• Identify change orders, generate necessary documentation and negotiate such change orders with the client.
• Internal communication with project team and ensuring all corporate policies and quality management systems are fully adhered to.
• Carrying out Business Development to identify opportunities for additional business opportunities with current and potential clients.
